About Us:

Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN) is a network of over 72 community group members and 131 individual members. We aim to engage and empower individuals and community groups in taking meaningful action to address the climate and nature emergency, working towards a just, thriving and resilient Edinburgh. Our membership is open to any community group and individual in Edinburgh. You can become a member here. As we continue to grow, we are seeking experienced individuals to join the trustees and play a crucial role in shaping our future.

Terms of Office 

  • Trustees are appointed for a one year term and elected at each year’s Annual Members’ Meeting or co-opted. 
  • This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed i.e. childcare, travel etc. 

Time Commitment 

  • Around two hours per week, of which trustees meetings lasting two hours every month.
  • Attending relevant subgroups 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Key aspects of trustee roles at ECCAN are as follows: 

  • Guide organisational strategic planning and decision-making processes using HR expertise.
  • Ensure effective governance, compliance, and accountability in all operations.
  • Provide valuable insights into risk management.
  • Advise on HR policies, practices, and talent management for organisational growth.
  • Collaborate collectively with trustees to assist the convener in leadership for strategic direction.
  • Approve operational strategies, policies, and monitor implementation for ECCAN.
  • Act as an effective champion for ECCAN, contributing to reviews of governance.
  • Ensure diverse community representation in decision-making processes.
  • Oversee and implement ECCAN policies, making occasional decisions on individual cases.
  • Ensure corporate governance and risk management.
  • Uphold high ethical standards and comply with the Trustees’ Code of Conduct.
  • Commit to understanding and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion as a trustee.

Qualifications:

We are particularly seeking individuals with:

  • Human Resources Expertise: Proven experience in HR leadership, talent management, and organisational development.

A genuine commitment to our organisation’s mission and a desire to make a positive impact.
